Dr. Shruti A. Upadhyaya

Dr. Upadhyaya is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and an academic affiliate at the Advanced Radar Research Center (ARRC), University of Oklahoma, and the Department of Climate Change at IIT Hyderabad. She earned her M.Tech + Ph.D. dual degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in Remote Sensing and GIS from IIT Bombay, with her thesis titled “Development of Hybrid Algorithm for Satellite-Based Rainfall Estimations Across India.” Prior to her current role, Dr. Upadhyaya served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at ARRC and the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) at the University of Oklahoma. Her research focuses on enhancing precipitation estimation and geospatial analysis using satellite observations, AI, and machine learning, leading projects funded by MOES, DST, SERB, ISRO, NASA, and JAXA. Dr. Upadhyaya has received notable accolades, including the Prof. U.C. Kothyari Best Ph.D. Thesis Award (ISH, 2018), the Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative Award (2020), and the Scientific High Level Visiting Fellowship (Embassy of France, 2023). She actively contributes to the American Geophysical Union (AGU), chairing sessions and committees, and mentors students in precipitation research and data science.
